Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOFFrom May 27 to 29, a three-day workshop on "Green Photonics" will take place at Fraunhofer IOF. In lectures and discussion formats, the influence of photonic technologies on the reduction of environmental impacts and possibilities for transformation on the way to a more sustainable future will be discussed. Registration is open until May 3. Researchers also have the opportunity to submit abstracts.

Climate change, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of renewable energies as well as the improvement of working conditions in terms of greater diversity and inclusion - photonic technologies can offer transformation potential for all of these challenges on the path to a more sustainable future. The "Green Photonics" workshop from May 27 to 29, 2024 aims to highlight this potential through presentations by renowned scientists and networking activities between companies, institutions, and researchers. The event is organized by the Society6.0 Network for Socio-Economic Disruption in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF.
Interdisciplinary exchange and networking
From energy-efficient and sustainable growth of laser crystals to environmental monitoring from space and sustainability requirements in the optical industry - during the workshop, photonic technologies will be examined from a wide variety of perspectives in the light of sustainability. This is ensured by the interdisciplinary program consisting of keynotes, lectures, a panel discussion, and numerous opportunities for networking. In addition, participants will have the chance to experience photonics research up close during laboratory tours.
Participants can also submit their research and solutions in the field of photonic technologies as their own abstracts by May 3 and present them at the "Green Photonics" workshop.
