Fraunhofer IOF – Our Mission Statement

The mission statement of Fraunhofer IOF is based on the mission statement of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. It is adapted to include institute-specific features.

MISSION

What is our Mission?

We develop innovative solutions with light for important future fi elds and foster their implementation and application in science, industry and society. In doing so, we create relevant added value for society and take responsibility.

We combine application-oriented research and innovative developments with scientifi - cally excellent basic research on the control of light – from its creation and manipulation to its application.

VISION

Where do we want to go?

We shape the future and pioneering developments in the fi elds of optics and precision engineering. As a technology leader, we are driving the evolution of modern photonics and its application in important future fi elds and are thus playing a key role in shaping the future.

Principles

How do we want to achieve innovation?
What values are important to us?

We develop technologies that are intended to make each and every person‘s life safer, more comfortable and more sustainable today and in the future. Modern management and effi cient organizational and decision-making structures are our cornerstones in this process.

All areas of our institute are committed to continuous development and high process quality as well as the sustainable use of available resources.

We conduct application-oriented research and development along the entire photonic innovation chain. We are guided by the principles of good scientific practice and follow scientific ethical standards.

We are committed to meeting the requirements and expectations of our customers while ensuring consistently good quality, excellent implementation and comprehensive services. We continue the tradition of the Jena optics pioneers Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe and Otto Schott.

We are historically and regionally embedded, maintain a wide range of collaborations and, as a scientific center, contribute to the development of Jena as a city of light and the Free State of Thuringia as an attractive research and business environment.

We value diversity as an indispensable potential of a modern research institution. We pursue the goal of giving all employees equal opportunities and promote a healthy work-life balance.

We owe our outstanding status to our excellent staff, who are highly dedicated to their work under excellent conditions and whose creativity and motivation are consistently encouraged and developed by us.

Our work environment is characterized by appreciation, respect and tolerance.
