Date note
Jena (Germany) | August 5, 2024
With the Photonics Days Jena, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF and the Max Planck School of Photonics are once again inviting students and doctoral candidates to their international career and networking event from September 26 to 27, 2024. Participation is free of charge and possible both virtually and in presence in Jena. The registration deadline is September 8.
In order to promote young talents and thus innovations in the fields of optics and photonics, Fraunhofer IOF together with the Graduate School Max Planck School of Photonics is again hosting the Photonics Days Jena - an international networking and career event for students and doctoral candidates.
From September 26 to 27, the organizers invite you to network with an international community and representatives of renowned companies at this hybrid event. In addition to the professional exchange, the focus will be on orientation in career issues and the provision of valuable contacts for one's own professional career. But the acquisition of scientific skills is not neglected either.
The motto of this year's Photonics Days is "New Limits" and the keynote speeches, lectures and workshops on current photonics topics will show how researchers and their scientific visions are constantly overcoming and redefining boundaries. Participants can look forward to a varied program on the first day of the event. In the "Photonics4Future" lecture series, researchers will present various photonics markets of the future. Participants will gain exciting insights into, among other things, the possibilities of integrated photonics and the application of photonic technologies to solve real challenges such as food waste. Other program items with a hands-on character invite participants to get creative together as a team or to expand their professional network during a joint visit to the W3+ trade fair.
A special highlight on the first day of the event will be a virtual keynote speech by Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Anne L'Huillier. She will speak about ultrashort light pulses, so-called attosecond lasers, which are used to study the behavior of electrons in atoms and molecules and thus allow detailed insights into the elementary processes of nature. Finally, the evening will be rounded off with the presentation of the "Applied Photonics Award", the Fraunhofer IOF's young talent award for innovative theses in the field of applied photonics, as well as an evening program for all participants in Jena.
The second day of the event will focus on individual career planning and active networking. At the "Industry Breakfast", participants will have the opportunity to establish valuable contacts with established companies from the optics and photonics industry on site. Throughout the morning, discussions can also be continued at a networking lunch break. In exchanges with attractive employers, participants can explore opportunities for internships, theses or specific job offers. In this way, students and doctoral candidates can gain perspectives on their own career paths even before they have completed their studies.
Participants then have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at Fraunhofer IOF and get to know the institute as part of a guided tour. At the same time, a workshop offers the opportunity to reflect on individual career development and acquire important skills for starting a career.
