Fiber lasers play a not inconsiderable role in materials processing. High performance and diffraction-limited beam quality as well as overall efficiencies of over 20 percent are the trademarks of these lasers.
Special fibers and amplifier architectures must be constructed for applications with special demands on optical parameters such as short pulse or single-frequency high-performance lasers. In most cases, it is not possible to resort to commercial components here.
On the basis of these challenges, the Fraunhofer IOF studies and develops fiber-optic components, particularly in the field of high-performance lasers.
