Photonics4Future Webinar Series

Fraunhofer IOF is launching a series of webinars on current research topics and providing insights into their advantages and benefits for industry and business.

From science to application

With its new, digital lecture series Photonics4Future, Fraunhofer IOF offers exclusive insights into pioneering research and technologies in the field of optics and photonics. Once a month, researchers from the institute will present their solutions for current and future challenges in industry and society live.

The series will offer decision-makers from the optics and photonics industry exclusive insights into the institute's current research and its practical application potential. In an initial pilot series, four selected specialist departments will provide public information about their work in brief presentations followed by an opportunity for exchange.

The live presentations will take place on the second Thursday of every month from September to December 2024, from 2:00pm to 2:45pm. Interested parties can join online via Microsoft Teams without registering in advance. Participation is free of charge.

How to join

We would like to explore and discuss our research with a broad range of interested people. Therefore the webinars are public, online and short. To participate you have to join via the link below or save our calendar-entry with ICS into your digital calendar.

Photonics4Future Webinar I | “Scaling Micro- and Nanophotonics: Wafer-Level Metasurfaces and Beyond”

September 12, 2024 | 2 - 2:45 pm | online

Abstract:

"Lithographic nanostructuring is essential for fabricating modern photonic known as "metasurfaces" in micro- and nanooptical systems. These structures offer advanced features beyond classical optics, from multi-aperture systems to resonant nanostructures that precisely tailor optical responses. Enabled by advancements in lithography, they face challenges in scaling, shape control, and positioning accuracy across large areas and diverse materials. Additionally, cost-effective and timely fabrication is crucial. This webinar will address these challenges and explore future applications and functionalities with you."

Your host:

Dr. Falk Eilenberger, Head of Department "Micro- and Nanooptics" at Fraunhfofer IOF

The presentation will be held in English.

Photonics4Future Webinar III | “Characterization of Optical Surfaces and Coatings”

November 14, 2024 | 2 - 2:45 pm | online

Abstract:

"Comprehensive characterization throughout the photonic process chain is essential for high-performance optics. The webinar provides an overview of surface and coating characterization with a particular focus on roughness analysis using the PSD function and its connection to scattered light. Additionally, it addresses light scattering-based particle and defect detection as well as links to stray light analysis. These topics are highly relevant for aerospace, lithography, and optical metrology."

Your host:

Dr. Anne-Sophie Munser, Head of Group "Surface and Coating Characterization" at Fraunhfofer IOF

The presentation will be held in English.
